If there was ever a story about determination, resilience and mental fortitude then look no further than Timaru’s Shane Archbold.
Dubbed the flying mullet by media, Novie to his mates, Archbold is back where he wants to be, and this sports writer, like many who have followed his journey would say, deserves to be, on cycling’s WorldTour.
Archbold has just been signed by Bora- Hansgrohe, along side cycling legend Pete Sagan and Irish lead out mate Sam Bennett.
The 30 year old rode for Bora between 2015 and 2017, but a serious crash during the 2016 Tour de France, when he slammed into a wall, smashing his pelvis and left him struggling with health troubles and was ultimately let go at the end of the 2017 season.
But in true form, Novie never gave up, grabbing that lemon he was given, squeezing the heck out of it to make sweet sweet Lemonade.
‘This is incredible! Said Archbold,’ I am so thankful to have received this great opportunity. The WorldToour will definalet be a challenge, but for me there is no better team with which to take on this challenge that BORA- Hansgrohe. We have a common history and I also have many friends within the team. I just hope to be ready to show everyone that I deserve this opportunity.’
