On the back of winning back to back National Women’s Premier League Titles the Canterbury United Pride have announced their intention to continue to inspire the community, being a part of the 2020 Run to Remember
On Sunday 8th March 2020, the team will to run , 10 kms in remembrance of the many people who suffered during the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch Earthquakes.
Sport Canterbury, Chief Executive Julyan Falloon, who run the event suggested the Run to Remember encourages communities to join together each year as a sign of reflection and remembrance.
“We are grateful that such important role models for our tamariki are sending this message to our communities. They value Canterbury’s support through the year and want to recognise their supporters by sharing a very special remembrance occasion by walking and running alongside them.”
The Canterbury Pride, coached by Alana Gunn, consists of players who also study and work, full or part time. Within their busy schedules, players have the opportunity to prioritise community service and events and consider this an important date on the calendar.
“As a group we really embrace opportunities to connect with the community – and Sport Canterbury’s Run to Remember is an event that is significant not only for the social interaction it provides, but also serving to remember the events of 2010 and 2011,” says Gunn.
