George Enersen, Sam Lane and David Brydon have all held on to their spots in the Black Sticks men’s hockey squad that’ll push towards Olympic selection next year, while the return of a number of Olympians has seen Dominic Newman miss out on selection.
Coach Darren Smith has gone for an experience laden side with six players having more than 200 caps as well as 20 of the 25 named players have more than 50 caps.
“We have been able to reintroduce Simon (Child) and Steve (Edwards) into the squad throughout the later stages of 2019, both players have been in outstanding form and have been selected as their skill and experience will be indispensable for the 2020 season,” said Smith.
“We are really happy with the quality, experience and potential of the team that we have named. We will be adding a further 10 players in the development squad which will make up a fantastic group of players where competition for Olympic places will be high”.
The Black Sticks men’s side hope to earn their first medal at the Olympic Games since 1976.
