Christ’s College will have home ground advantage in today’s historic 100th match against St Bede’s1st XV.
While home side have had the wood on Bede’s in last four outings, Bede’s have had a better run to start the 2019 UC Championship, with two wins, a loss and then two wins at home, versus Christ’s three wins a draw and then a loss to Christchurch Boys High.
Bede’s have also been UC champions on five occasions in the past 11 years, while College haven’t won the converted Canterbury School Boy Title during that same period.
Further Points of interest: St Bede’s and Christ’s have played each other 99 times since 1921. There was no game in either 1930 or 1934 and there have been three extra games – semi-finals of the UC Championship (previous Press Cup) in the last ten years.
• Christ’s hold the advantage in terms of total wins with 49, against 43 to St Bede’s. with 7 drawn. Christ’s had a win ratio of 70% in the games pre-1960. However, that ratio has been reversed over the last 20 years with St Bede’s winning 70% of all matches.
